Whidbey Island Grown The Whidbey Island Regional Marketing Program
Welcome
Welcome to the web site for the Whidbey Island Grown brand. The brand was established by local farmers and residents to increase awareness and consumption of agricultural products grown on the Island. Agricultural areas are an important part of what makes Whidbey Island such a special place to visit and live. To preserve these areas the Island needs an economically vibrant farm community. Please join us in this effort to promote locally grown products and help preserve the rural character of the Island.
Good Things to Come
You may already be seeing our Whidbey Island Grown logo on some locally grown products. This is your assurance that these products were grown on the Island and that your purchase will benefit local farmers. Merchants displaying the logo signage either support or directly purchase locally grown products. Our efforts to build the Whidbey Island Grown brand will include expanding this web site to provide information on the basics of the program, how to sign up and profiles of Whidbey Island Grown members. The web site will be linked to other local product web sites and will interact directly with the new Puget Sound Food Network (PSFN) site. This will allow members, at no additional cost, to post their business profiles on the new PSFN site and provide current updates on products and events. To stay in touch with the community we will be launching a newsletter which will keep members and the community up to date on current agricultural issues and direct residents to locations where locally produced products may be purchased.
How Do I Join in This Local Food Effort?
There are several categories of membership: producer, merchant, supporter and community member. Agricultural producers will benefit from promotional efforts throughout the year, be featured on the web site and newsletter and receive free membership in the new PSFN. They will also receive full rights to use the brand graphics on their packaging and signage. Merchants such as food retailers and restaurants supporting the brand by purchasing local products will be profiled on the web site and featured throughout the year in the newsletters; they will also receive rights to use the brand graphics to promote their businesses. Supporters will receive mention on the brand promotional materials and will display window signage indicating their support of local agricultural products. Community members supporting the brand will receive a T-Shirt displaying the Whidbey Island Grown logo and be set up to receive the newsletter.
